Masonicare is fighting homelessness

The Masonic charity Masonicare is campaigning to raise fund to donate to charities that are combatting the scourge of homelessness. You, your friends, your company, your community and your Lodge can help.

How? – Here are some ideas.

Stage your own sleepout

Masonicare is inviting you to support Grand Master MWBro Khris Albano by staging your own sleepout in support of his goal to raise money to combat homelessness. The Grand Master is seeking you and your Lodge’s support to improve society and the human condition. Addressing homelessness helps restore dignity, opportunity, and hope to individuals facing extreme hardship.

The Grand Master will be taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout at the White Bay Cruise Terminal on 19 June. We’re asking you to do the same at your local Masonic Centre.

Two have already been planned – at Orchard Hills and Picton – and the more we hold, the more we raise to help charities that have programs to help the homeless. Masonicare sends its grateful thanks to the Brethren of Orchard Hills and Picton for acting so quickly. We wish you well and ask others to join in.

Freemasonry emphasises leading by example in personal conduct and public service. Supporting homelessness efforts demonstrates moral leadership and encourages others to act.

How to support the Grand Master

Option 1

Make a Donation. You, your Lodge, your friends, your workplace can make a donation to the Masonicare CEO Sleepout appeal. Masonicare will be making a donation to Vinnies and every cent makes a difference. It’s simple – just click on the link here to donate to the 2025 Masonicare Homelessness appeal. We’ve already received some very generous donations from individual Freemasons, Lodges and Hall Companies and your donations make a difference.

Remember: Masonicare will match your donation. We promise every dollar you donate will be matched, doubling the impact of your generosity. We’ll pool all the donations at the end of the campaign and send them as a collective donation from Freemasons NSW & ACT/Masonicare to the Vinnies CEO Sleepout organizers. Every donor will be recognised and appropriately thanked.

Option 2

Stage a Sleepout. Organise a sleepout in support at your Masonic Centre, invite Freemasons, families and friends, agree on a fundraising target for the night, seek donations from the participants and be slightly uncomfortable sleeping on the floor, just like the Grand Master will be.

Decide on the charities that help the homeless you will support. In addition to Vinnies, there are often local charities with DGR status that help the homeless. So as well as supporting the GM at Vinnies, you can also choose to help a local charity.  Remember, Masonicare will double your fundraising power.

Every Masonic Centre that takes part will be sent a perpetual plaque – recording that in that place brethren took a stand to combat homelessness.

Homelessness affects the safety, health, and stability of communities. By contributing to its reduction, Freemasons help create a more stable and humane society— that’s always been one of our core tenets.
